The FITsociety MCP and API connect your FITsociety account to an AI assistant such as Claude. You then manage coaching work in plain language: type what you need, and the assistant does it for you in FITsociety.
In this article, you will learn:
what an API and MCP actually are
what you can do with them
how to set up the integration
how to create a training plan and nutrition plan step by step
what is not possible yet, and answers to common questions
This article is for coaches and gym owners working with FITsociety. No technical knowledge is needed.
What are an API and MCP?
Simply put: the API is the door to FITsociety, and MCP is the guide that lets an AI assistant through that door.
API
API stands for Application Programming Interface. It is a defined way for two programs to communicate. Think of restaurant service: you do not enter the kitchen, but give your order to the waiter. The waiter knows exactly what the kitchen can prepare and brings it back.
The FITsociety API does the same. Other software can request FITsociety data or make changes through it, such as finding a member or adding a training plan. This always follows defined rules and uses only permissions you grant.
MCP
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard letting AI assistants such as Claude work securely with other software. MCP tells the assistant which FITsociety actions are available, such as "Find member", "Create nutrition plan" or "Send message", and how to use them.
Without MCP, an AI assistant can only converse and advise. With MCP, it can actually do things for you in your own FITsociety account.
How do they work together?
You type a question or instruction in plain language into your AI assistant.
The assistant determines which FITsociety actions are needed.
Through MCP, it performs those actions in your account within the permissions you granted.
The assistant shows what it found or did. You check it and adjust where necessary.
What can you use it for?
Through MCP, your AI assistant can do most daily coaching work in FITsociety for you. Which sections you can use depends on the modules in your account.
Section | What the assistant can do | Example question |
Members | Find and create members; view profiles, goals, measurements, intake forms and check-ins; maintain notes | "What are Sanne's goals and how have her measurements changed?" |
Training | Create, edit, duplicate and assign exercises, training plans and WODs to members; view training sessions and performance | "Create a full body plan for beginners, 3 days per week." |
Nutrition | Create and edit nutrition plans, recipes and supplements; set nutrition targets; view member intake; find products | "How much protein did Mark eat on average this week?" |
Habits | Create habit templates, assign them to members and track progress | "Assign the habit 'daily 8.000 steps' to Sanne." |
Calendar and bookings | View and schedule classes, appointments and tasks; make bookings and update attendance | "Who registered for Thursday's bootcamp?" |
Messages | Read member conversations and send messages | "Send Mark a message saying his new plan is ready." |
Overviews | Summaries of member adherence, bookings, subscriptions, invoices and credits | "Which members completed fewer than half their workouts this month?" |
You can combine several steps in one instruction. For example: "Find Sanne, create a training plan based on her intake, assign it to her and send a message saying it is ready."
Security: you stay in control
The integration can never do more than you are allowed to do in FITsociety, and you determine how much it may do.
Only your own account. The assistant works only within your account and the company linked to the integration. Other companies' data is never visible.
Only your own modules. If you do not have a module, such as nutrition, the assistant cannot use it either.
Your members' consent. Member data is only available within the consent they granted. Without it, the assistant cannot view that data.
Reading and changing are separate. Choose whether an integration can only view data or also create and edit it. Changes require the permissions you grant.
You remain the coach. AI assistants can make mistakes. Always check proposals or created content before sharing with a member, especially nutrition and training involving injuries, pregnancy or medical complaints.
Tip: start with read-only permissions. Explore what the assistant can do without changing anything. Enable write permissions once you are comfortable with how it works.
Setting up the integration
Connect FITsociety to your AI assistant in a few minutes. You need an assistant supporting MCP integrations, such as Claude.
Availability: MCP goes live for everyone after the 6 November webinar. Want to use it already? Send us a message and we will enable it in your account.
Step 1: Open the MCP page in FITsociety
Open the MCP page in FITsociety. Under Connection details find the endpoint (integration web address) and a configuration example to copy. Cannot see the page? MCP is not enabled in your account yet. Send us a message and we will help.
Step 2: Create a key and choose permissions
On the same page, create a new key (token). Choose what the integration may do:
Read only: the assistant can view and summarize data without making changes.
Read and write: the assistant can also create and edit training plans, nutrition plans, notes, messages and appointments.
Copy the key and store it securely. Do not share it: anyone holding it can access your account with the permissions you selected.
Step 3: Add the integration to your AI assistant
Add a new MCP integration in your AI assistant:
Give it a recognizable name, for example FITsociety.
Paste the endpoint from step 1 as the address. Choose connection type Streamable HTTP if your assistant asks.
Add your key as shown in FITsociety's configuration example. Replace its temporary text with your own key.
Save and let the assistant retrieve available actions.
Step 4: Test the integration
Ask a simple question, such as: "Which members do I have in FITsociety?" or "What is in my calendar today?" If the answer contains your own data, the integration works.
Not working? Check that the key was copied fully, the integration is enabled in your assistant and MCP is enabled in your account.
Revoke a key
Want to stop access, perhaps because your key leaked or you are switching assistants? Revoke it on FITsociety's MCP page. The integration stops working immediately.
Example: creating a training plan
In this example, create a strength plan for a new member, Sanne, and assign it to her. This requires write permissions.
Step 1: Let the assistant get to know your member
Start with a question so the assistant has the correct information:
Find Sanne de Vries in FITsociety. Summarize her intake, goals and any injuries.
The assistant finds Sanne and lists her intake and goals. Something incorrect or missing? Add it in your next message.
Step 2: Ask for a proposal
Describe what you want as specifically as possible:
Propose a training plan for Sanne: 3 days per week, focused on strength, around 60 minutes per workout. She trains in a gym with free weights and machines. Account for her knee complaints. Use exercises from my exercise library. Do not create anything yet; show the proposal first.
For each training day, the assistant shows proposed exercises with sets, repetitions and rest.
Step 3: Adjust
Adjust the proposal in plain language as often as you want:
Replace lunges with step-ups and add a core exercise on day 2. Set rest for compound exercises to 2 minutes.
Step 4: Have the plan created and assigned
Satisfied? Instruct the assistant to add it to FITsociety:
Looks good. Create this plan in FITsociety and assign it to Sanne from Monday.
The assistant creates the plan, fills training days with exercises and assigns it to Sanne. It tells you when ready.
Step 5: Check and notify
Open the plan in FITsociety and review it. Then you can have the assistant send the message too:
Send Sanne a message saying her new plan is ready in the app and she can always ask questions.
Tip: often use the same plan type? Have the assistant save it as a template. Then say, for example: "Duplicate my 'Beginner strength 3x' template for Mark and adapt it for someone without knee complaints."
Example: creating a nutrition plan
In this example, create a nutrition plan for Mark, who wants to lose weight while retaining muscle. You need the nutrition module and write permissions.
Step 1: Establish the starting point
Find Mark Jansen. What are his goals, current weight and nutrition targets? What did he eat on average last week?
The assistant retrieves Mark's goals, measurements and configured nutrition targets, and summarizes logged intake. You immediately see the greatest opportunity for improvement.
Step 2: Set nutrition targets
Determine targets yourself, or ask the assistant for a proposal you check:
Set these daily targets for Mark: 2.200 kcal, 170 grams protein, 220 grams carbohydrates and 70 grams fat.
Step 3: Ask for a plan proposal
Propose a nutrition plan for Mark matching these targets: breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. He does not eat fish and has little cooking time, so keep it simple. Use recipes from my recipe library where possible. Do not create anything yet.
The assistant shows proposed meals, quantities and total daily calories and macros.
Step 4: Adjust
Replace breakfast quark with oatmeal and whey, and make workday lunches portable. Is protein still on target?
The assistant adjusts the plan and recalculates whether it meets the targets.
Step 5: Have the plan created and check it
Good. Create this nutrition plan in FITsociety for Mark and check that it matches his targets.
The assistant creates the plan and checks it against configured targets. It reports any day that differs too much. Open the plan yourself in FITsociety afterwards to review it.
Step 6: Track progress
After a week or two, check quickly how things are going:
How well has Mark followed his nutrition plan over the last two weeks? Which days differ most?
Tip: if you create a new recipe for a member, have the assistant save it in your recipe library too. Reuse it for other members later.
More example questions and tips
Example questions
Members and progress
"Which members have not completed this week's check-in?"
"Summarize Sanne's last three check-ins and add a note to her record."
"How has Mark's weight changed over the last three months?"
Training and WODs
"Create and publish a WOD for Saturday: a 20-minute AMRAP with kettlebells and rowing."
"Which workouts did Sanne complete this month, and what were her heaviest squats?"
Calendar and bookings
"Schedule an intake with Lisa next Tuesday at 18:00."
"How many people attended my group classes on average this month?"
Administration
"Give me an overview of outstanding invoices."
"Which subscriptions expire in the coming month?"
"How many credits does Mark have left?"
Tips for good instructions
Be specific. Use the member's full name and include numbers, days, times and goals.
Provide context. Explain injuries, preferences, available equipment and the member's time available.
Ask for a proposal first. Say "Do not create anything yet" if you first want to see what the assistant plans.
Adjust in plain language. You do not need to start again; simply explain what should change.
Check the result. Check everything in FITsociety before sharing with your member.
Work in steps on larger tasks. Get one member right before asking the assistant to do the same for ten members.
What is not possible yet
Creating invoices and payments. You can view and summarize invoices, subscriptions and credits. Create invoices or process payments in FITsociety itself as usual.
Importing members and subscriptions from another system. Switching from another system? Contact us and we will help with the transition.
Medical advice. The assistant supports your work as a coach; it is not a doctor or dietitian. For medical complaints, your judgment and a specialist's remain authoritative.
Working outside your modules or permissions. The assistant cannot do anything your account or key does not permit.
Missing something? Add it to the wishlist
Can the assistant not do something yet? Simply ask it. If a feature is genuinely missing, it offers to add your idea to our wishlist. Other coaches can vote so we see what is most requested. Listing a request does not guarantee we will build it or promise when. Member data and personal information are never included on the wishlist.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI assistant do I need?
An assistant supporting MCP integrations, such as Claude. Some assistants require a paid subscription for this.
Does MCP cost extra?
Contact us and we will explain the options within your package.
Could the assistant accidentally delete or change something?
With a read-only key, it cannot change anything. With write permissions, it can create and edit things, but only within your account and modules. Ask for a proposal first and check the result.
Will my members see I use an AI assistant?
No, not automatically. A training plan, nutrition plan or message created by the assistant appears normally in FITsociety, just as if you created it yourself.
What happens to my members' data?
The assistant can only view data your members consented to share, and only within your account. Also read the privacy terms of your chosen AI assistant.
I receive an error. What should I do?
First check the key, permissions and whether the integration is enabled in your assistant. A missing-permissions message probably means your key is read-only. Need help? Contact support.
Where can I see it in action?
During our webinar on Friday 6 November at 13:00, we demonstrate MCP using a practical case. Want to attend? Send us a message and we will arrange an invitation.
