1. General
Add photo: Use a relevant image (e.g. a challenge logo or training group photo). This makes the group immediately recognizable in members' chat lists.
Group name: Choose a clear, specific name. Instead of "Group 1", prefer "Kickboxing Monday 20:00" or "March Weight Loss Challenge".
Group description: Briefly explain the group's purpose and rules (e.g. "Ask training questions here and keep it friendly!").
2. Member privacy (crucial)
At the bottom are three name display options. This is the most important choice for member privacy:
Full name: Members see each other's first and last names. Use this only for small, private groups where people already know each other.
Hide names: Members cannot see each other's names. This is the safest option for general groups where members are strangers.
First name only: A middle ground that feels personal while protecting surnames.
3. Management and interaction
Also consider these practical points:
Group size: Consider whether a group could become too large for meaningful interaction. Too many messages may irritate members or feel like spam.
Moderation: As a coach, you are responsible for the atmosphere. If useful, agree that questions for the coach should be asked 1-to-1 when irrelevant to the whole group.
Relevance: Add only members the information is actually intended for. Receiving notifications from a group they do not belong to is frustrating for members.
